Acrylics, colored pencils and pastels are layered to create texture, movement, and depth.
Each medium adds something unique, creating layers that bring the piece to life and give it a sense of energy and dimension. I often begin with a loose watercolor wash, letting the colors blend and flow organically across the paper. Once dry, I add the medium I feel will create the vision I have of the subject matter. I use gouache to define shapes and introduce more opacity adding highlights as needed for depth.
I use acrylics for opaque techniques or brilliant colors not achieved in other ways. Building up bold strokes and highlights that catch the eye. I use colored pencils to add delicate details and pastels emphasize areas of light and shadow. This process allows me to experiment, making each artwork a dynamic interplay of color and texture.
